Dealer Alert: Suspect Linked To Over $1M In Fraudulent Vehicle Purchases

The Houston Police Department Auto Theft Division – Vehicle Fraud Unit continues to receive cases of fraudulent activity linked to one individual who, as of March 31, is associated with 19 confirmed fraudulent vehicle purchases valued at over 1.3 million dollars—he is believed to have committed many more.
 
The suspect is traveling across the state and Texas dealers should check their records again to ensure they have not been victimized by this person.
 
This is the third Dealer Alert issued by the Vehicle Fraud Unit for this suspect. The suspect was originally arrested on March 4, 2021 during a Fraud-in-Progress when the Vehicle Fraud Unit was aware of approximately $340,000 in fraud.  Nine days later, the estimated value increased to $678,000.  As of March 24, we have confirmed 16 vehicles at over $1.1 million in value.  Fortunately, all but four vehicles have been recovered in Houston, Louisiana, and New York.
 
The Vehicle Fraud Unit has found 11 fraudulent IDs bearing the following names:

Andres Bonilla	Noel Velaz Cabrera
Miguel Caballero	William Palma
Francisco Sanchez	Jose Vega
