A Sneak Peek at the 2017 TIADA Member Dealer Survey

Over the past month TIADA sent surveys to over 900 dealer members, and while the results are not final we are seeing some interesting results compared to our last survey (2014).
One of the more dramatic early results has to do with the number of vehicles dealers are holding in inventory. In 2014, 37% of the dealers reported having on average, between 21 to 50 vehicles in inventory. That number has fallen to 29% in 2017. Where did that 8% go? Interestingly enough 5% of the dealers who responded to the survey reported carrying fewer vehicles in inventory and 3% reported carrying more than 50 vehicles.

Another eye-catching number has to do with the question, “Approximately how many vehicles do you retail in an average month?" As you can see in the chart below, the number of dealers retailing between 16 – 25 vehicles has dropped collectively by 5%.

While the final numbers will not be in until next week we are seeing some interesting trends. Our hope is the TIADA Dealer Member Survey will allow us to collect better information about our members, and in turn that will allow us to better serve and represent you. We hope this data will also be beneficial to our individual dealers to help them understand the scope of their businesses in comparison to other members.

We ask 35 questions in our survey and are seeking statistically valid results with a confidence level of 95%. So, how can you get your hands on the final results? The first copy of the survey will be distributed at our annual conference next month. It always makes for good hallway conversation and it's a special treat for our attendees. You will want to make sure and register today. If you can't make it to the conference, we will be releasing the survey results in the next few months.
