Legislative Consultant Mario A. Martinez, a revered figure in Texas governmental and political circles, passed away on June 28, 2023. With nearly 35 years of experience in the field, Mario was an influential and dedicated individual who made significant contributions to the Texas Independent Automobile Dealers Association and various other organizations.
As a trusted advocate, Mario was cherished by the Texas Independent Automobile Dealers Association. With his vast knowledge and unwavering commitment, he championed their interests, offering invaluable guidance and strategic counsel. His ability to manage relationships and his unwavering principles made him an exceptional advocate for the association.
“Mario Martinez was an integral part of our TIADA family both professionally and personally,” said TIADA Chairman of the Board Mark Jones. “He was an icon in Texas politics, but he was an even better husband, father, and friend. I was blessed to know him and will forever treasure such a great man.”
While the loss of Mario A. Martinez leaves a void in the Texas political landscape, his impact and legacy will forever be remembered. His tireless efforts, unwavering principles, and dedication to his clients have left an indelible mark on the Texas Independent Automobile Dealers Association and the many organizations he served. Mario's contributions have undoubtedly shaped the political landscape of Texas and will continue to inspire future generations of advocates and lobbyists.
“Most dealers will never know just how much of a positive impact he had on this industry and TIADA,” said Jeff Martin, former TIADA Executive Director and current CEO of NIADA. “He had the perfect blend of knowledge, professionalism, humor, and empathy mixed with an unmatched work ethic that made him the most effective person I have ever known at the Capitol. While my heart is absolutely broken, I am smiling from ear to ear, thinking about all the great memories. Texas was lucky to have him, and I will miss him dearly.”
Mario married the love of his life, Louann, in 1994, and during their 29 years of marriage, they welcomed two beautiful daughters into the world. He was a devoted father who encouraged his daughters to follow their dreams. Mario shared his love of hunting, fishing, and adopting stray animals with the girls and, through his actions, instilled the importance of education, a strong work ethic, and integrity. He also loved spending time in Rockport on his cherished boat, Bella G's (Beautiful Girls).
In 1996, Mario and Louann established Martinez & Associates and continued to forge strong relationships with key lawmakers and policymakers, eventually leading to independent government relations consulting. Mario represented law enforcement entities and major industries in some of the most challenging and contentious issues debated by the Texas Legislature over the last decade. Throughout his personal and professional life, Mario touched the lives of many. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will miss him dearly and remember his priority was always “family first.”
The family invites all who wish to celebrate Mario's life to join them on Thursday, July 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Riverbend Church, 4214 N. Capital of Texas Highway, Home for Hope Sanctuary, Austin, Texas. A reception will follow.
