Self-Check Inspection Report

Last week we discussed the importance of responding if the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Enforcement Division requests records from your dealership.

Last week we discussed the importance of responding if the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Enforcement Division requests records from your dealership. We also shared the TxDMV disciplinary matrix so dealers could see the consequences of breaking the rules.

This week's blog focuses on what a dealer can do to stay out of hot water and includes a dealer inspection report that can be used as a self-audit checklist.

Securing internet down tags, keeping wholesale and retail vehicles separate, posting buyers guides, and knowing what records need to be available are just a sample of some of the things TxDMV might be looking for if they show up at a dealership.

This checklist will allow a dealer to conduct a quick self-audit to identify areas that might need addressing. TIADA also recommends checking out the TxDMV Dealer Training Seminars that are now offered through online webinars. Another great education program that is designed specifically for independent dealers can be found  at www.texasdealereducation.com--it is a comprehensive online on demand course that addresses independent dealer compliance.

Keeping an independent automobile dealership compliant can be challenging, but the tools are there to help dealers succeed.
