Rule Changes from TxDMV: Temporary Tags, License Process, Storage Lots, and Salvage Vehicles

On Thursday, April 11th, TxDMV had a board meeting related to their rule review. This was the last step in the rule review process. Previously, the notice of TxDMV's intention to review rules was published in the Texas Register. After publication, the public, including TIADA, was provided with a comment period that closed prior to the board meeting. At the board meeting, the public, including TIADA was given another opportunity to comment on the proposed rules. Below are a few takeaways from that board meeting and written comments.

TIADA Takes a Stand Against the FTC CARS Rule

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently finalized the "Combating Auto Retail Scams" (CARS) Rule. Before the Rule’s effective date, the Texas Automobile Dealers Association (TADA) and the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) filed a lawsuit to stop the implementation of the rule on behalf of franchise dealers, and the rule is paused until the litigation is resolved. The lawsuit briefly mentions the impact on independent dealers. TIADA felt, however, that the lawsuit failed to adequately address the independent dealers’ situation. TIADA and NIADA have teamed up to take a stand against the Rule’s implementation by providing information specifically to address the Rule’s effects on independent dealerships.
